Hi! Thanks for visiting this web site!

Surrey based singer songwriter Rupert Oxlade has just produced his first CD “Colours”. It is a collection of 11 beautifully crafted songs expressing his love for that acoustic “chilled out vibe”.

Here are a few behind the scene thoughts that shed some light on this latest recording.

Q: What is your musical background and who are your influences?

R: Well, I started playing guitar when I was about 14. Dad brought back this little electric from a photo shoot and I was immediately smitten! So I dabbled for a few years but really started getting into it when I was about 20. I loved all the lead guitar to begin with but gradually song writing became my real joy. Paul Simon was a big influence with his poetic lyrics and jazz harmony but more recently I have loved listening to songwriters such as Jack Johnson.

Q: How did you arrive at “your sound”?

R: Some great mates and wonderful musicians -Will Shackleton(guitar), Jack Duxbury (keys), Rory Davidson (bass) and Yiannis Sachinis (drums)- came together for this recording. Mark Crew worked wonders on the production side of things and we all piled down to his house to record it in a week. We had a great time and I hope that’s reflected in the music. Vocally I can’t really belt it if you know what I mean, so that has a bearing on the instrumentation. Things are kept quite gentle but I actually like it that way. I like a fairly simple, raw sound most of the time- just guitar and vocals, can at times, say all that it needs to be said.

Q: What are your plans now?

R: Well, I’m working on some new songs at the moment and plan to record them at some point this year. But the main thing right now is just getting out there and playing as much as possible!
